http://www.digitalwall.com/scripts/p.asp?UID=269

Nielsen: Personal recommendations 'most trusted'

Nielsen surveyed 25,000 online consumers in 50 countries for the bi-annual "Nielsen Global Online Consumer Survey". Researchers found that 90% of online consumers trust recommendations made by friends, acquaintances and family while 70% of consumers trust online product reviews.

Branded websites also appeal to consumers, with 70% reporting they trust the information provided on branded sites. Nielsen is now tracking more than 100 consumer generated media sources.

Nielsen: Kids spending more time online

According to the report there are more than 16 million kids (age 2 to 11) online, nearly 10% of the online universe, with boys and girls making up roughly equal portions of the split. This is an 18% increase over 2004. In fact, kids are now spending a big portion of their days online.

In 2004, kids spent about 7 hours each month online. Now, kids are spending more than 11 hours online, a 36% increase. Boys are spending more time online, but girls are consuming more content (consuming 9% more webpages than boys). However, boys are consuming more video content than girls. Boys are consuming 61% of video streams amongst children and are responsible for 57% of the time spent watching online video content.

This trend isn't just affecting the kids; parents are also changing some of their online habits. For instance, parents of online kids are more likely to buy things such as groceries online than the average adult.
